You are spoilt for choice with the range of local pubs all within 3 minutes walk of Blue Monkey and they are a great place to warm up during the Autumn and Winter months. Here is the Blue Monkey lowdown on the best dog friendly, family friendly and gourmet friendly local pubs.
The Halfway House Inn
Almost next door! Turn left out of Blue Monkey and walk to the end of Garrett Lane (approx. 10 seconds) where you will find The Halfway House Inn, so called because it marks the border between Kingsand and Cawsand.
Great for arrival night due to its proximity and its delicious menu with gluten free options. The décor is fresh and nautical, there’s a Summer / Winter (heated) beer garden and in winter the indoor vibe is cosy and the prices are reasonable.
Lunch is served between 12-2.30 and supper from 6-9.
The Crowd: Mixture of diners and non-diners.
Top Local Tip: Great for 1st night late arrivals, Doombar on tap, v family friendly.
The Devonport Inn
Turn left out of Blue Monkey and head for the sea! In approximately 2 minutes you will reach The Devonport Inn.
This is the place to come for a more lavish meal with lots of exciting dishes on the menu. The ales, ciders and gin are local and the fish is caught by the owner who goes fishing daily with the local fishermen.
The Crowd: Mostly diners & locals enjoying drinks on the front overlooking the sea.

Top Local Tip: Best view for sundowners on the key followed by Moules Fritts / Steak washed down with a pint of Legend. 5* food, wine and view.
The Rising Sun
Always packed with locals, The Rising Sun is a typical British Pub – unpretentious with a friendly, cosy atmosphere.
They serve Real Ales from local breweries and delicious seasonal food which includes vegetarian options. Saturday nights from 9 to 11 is live music night. If you like that kind of thing…
The Crowd: Cosy & Crowded.
Top Tip: Arrive early on music night. 5* for local atmosphere
The Edgcumbe Arms, Cremyll
A great place for Sunday lunch (5 stars on Trip Advisor) with an open fire and only £19 for a 2 course meal including the carvery.
Take the car, taxi or a brisk 60-90 minute walk from Blue Monkey, turn left and follow the beautiful coastal path to Cremyll to work up an appetite. The Edgcumbe Arms serves traditional English pub food and if you prefer an early morning walk, they serve a full English between 10 and 11.30 from Tuesday to Saturday.
If you’re planning a trip to Plymouth, you can catch the ferry from here and stop for a drink on your way back while you wait for your taxi.
The Crowd: Muddy boots, children, dogs and walkers!
Top Tip: Pop in for coffee and cake from 10-5 – closed on Monday. 5* watering hole after a walk to Mt Edgcumbe.
