We know how important it is to have your dog cool, in this hot weather.
It’s not always going to be possible to bring them out for a walk because of the heat. But when you do you want to know that their little paws are going to be cool! At Blue Monkey we pride ourselves on being super dog-friendly, so we’ve compiled some cool-paw walks, with a few tips to make sure you keep them safe in this crazy heat.
A dog walk in tree lined grounds – Kingsand to Cremyl Ferry
This walk takes you through the tree lined grounds of Mount Edgecumbe and so your dog will have plenty of foliage to trot around under. The view of Plymouth Sound is spectacular and there are dog-friendly pubs along the way who provide water bowls for the 4-legged thirsty ones, although we advise you to always take your own dog water with you in this heat. The RSPCA also recommends that you add a little ice to keep ‘em cool.
Top Tip: The sections around Cremyll, Mount Edgcumbe House and Gardens and the old carriageway at the Kingsand end are suitable for wheelchair users and pushchairs.
Dog walk through the woods – Penlee Wood
You may need a parasol for your dog for the first 10 minutes of this walk, but once you get across Cawsand beach you will reach Penlee Woods: the shady climb that heads to Penlee point. Walking through Penlee Wood provides plenty of tree cover and shade so your dog can safely whizz through the trees off his lead and the views at the top are amazing (*you’ll need your parasol again for the furry one.)
Dog walk near water – Port Eliot
The beautiful dog-friendly grounds of Port Eliot will provide plenty of cool paw terrain for your pooch although you may need to keep the lead on. There’s a nice cool mud bath to be had as well along the estuary so don’t forget to dog-proof your car before you start – I mean who can resist a mud bath??? You’re bound to get dragged in too…
Top Tip: Call before you go as Port Eliot is not always open to the public: 01503 230211
Thanks to the RSPCA for their tips on how to keep your dog safe in the heat.
